FOR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS

Your patient is scheduled for abdominal surgery.  You want it be successful and for them to have a simple and easy recovery.  You wonder if there’s something you can do so they’re prepared.  You know with this kind of surgery it’s especially important since abdominal surgery has a high incidence of reoccurrence.
Why?

You want them to maintain the integrity of the sutures by using their abdominals in a way that prevents force on these delicate stitches.

You want them to strengthen and re-educate these muscles so they work in their body’s best interest.
The answer:

They need to use the research-based Tupler Technique®
BEFORE their surgery
so their abdominal muscles work
correctly AFTER surgery.

With the Tupler Technique® they learn how to perform four basic activities properly PRIOR to surgery. They will learn to use their abdominal muscles correctly while practicing these activities so after surgery they can perform them without worry.

This is important because these 4 activities can lead to the unwanted pressure that produces the negative outcomes. The four activities are breathing and coughing; standing correctly; getting up and down correctly (going from lying on your back to sitting and then moving from being seated to standing); and finally, having a bowel movement.

Having your  patient start this program 4 to 6 weeks before surgery is the most beneficial. However, if they start one week before surgery they will still have some benefits. They can start the seated abdominal exercises as soon as they are able to get out of bed! Scar mobilization, to prevent adhesions, should be started after the scar has healed.

The Tupler Technique® has proven to be effective in preparing patients for surgery by teaching simple, yet effective methods.  Once they’ve learned these techniques, they’ll be ready for the procedure with the knowledge that they have trained their body to actually advance the healing process.

CONCEPTION OF PROGRAM

In the process of teaching the Tupler Technique® to women during and after pregnancy Julie Tupler discovered two things:

Women who did the Tupler Technique® Program during their pregnancy and ended up with a c-section had an easier and more effective recovery because of this abdominal preparation.

Women who strengthened their abdominals and practiced pushing during pregnancy could still push with an epidural when they had no feeling in their abdominal muscles. The reason being is that they had “muscle memory.” They closed their eyes and just “visualized in their mind” the abdominal muscles going back to the spine and pushing the baby out.  I realized this same concept  would hold true after having abdominal surgery.  If a person strengthened their abdominal muscles and then practiced using them correctly before surgery they too would be able to use their muscles correctly after surgery when their abdominals were numb. They would have this same “muscle memory” and thus be able to visualize their abdominals going back towards their spine and far far away from their stitches!

"If you are concerned about the excess skin, your only choice is to remove it with a tummy tuck. If you are concerned only about the separation of your muscles and fullness of the lower abdomen, you may want to look into the Tupler Technique method. It is also important to prepare for a tummy tuck with this method for a faster recovery.”

Julie

Great news! You would not believe it but the surgeon has determined there is no longer any medical reason

for surgery! I was scheduled to go under the knife three days ago and the doctor, who hasn't seen me since Dec, couldn't believe the changes. There is still a small hernia, visible to the naked eye, but we can't make it pop in or out the way a hernia should so the doctor thinks it's not worth undergoing surgery at this point. I'm not sure I communicated this before, but when I saw him in Dec. he recommended a repair including 5" of mesh! Now the area surrounding the defect is so tight that if we did surgery, we would need a teeny circle of mesh, less than an inch.

Thanks so much for teaching me how to tighten my transverse. Your exercises have changed everything. As I mentioned before, I've lost 1 1/2 inches off my waist, I've noticeably toned my abs and I don't have to have a surgery that was supposed to lay me up for 2 weeks and prevent me from lifting my son of 6! I'm eternally grateful and a total convert to the cult of Julie. Can I write you a letter of endorsement?
Best wishes

TUPLER TECHNIQUE® HELPS HEAL UMBILCAL HERNIA

An umbilical hernia is a side effect of a diastasis recti. If this hernia is repaired without closing the diastasis recti, this hernia will most likely reoccur. The Tupler Technique® will not only close your diastasis, it will heal the umbilical hernia and  turn your belly button from an “outie” to an “innie”.

TUPLER TECHNIQUE® LOWERS HAZARDS OF SURGERY

Abdominal surgery…… means cutting and when you cut into muscle it causes scar tissue which weakens the muscle.
Scar tissue puts you at risk for two complications:

Incisional hernia
An incisional hernia is a protrusion of your organs that occurs near or directly along the surgical incision. The incisional hernia comes from tension and force on the sutures caused by abdominal pressure. Even after the incision has healed, because it is scar tissue, not muscle, the area around the scar will always be weak and at risk for pulling apart. That is why continuous abdominal pressure on this weak spot can create an incisional hernia months or even years after the surgery. Learning how to use your abdominal muscles correctly with the Tupler Technique® will prevent an incisional hernia.

Adhesions
Adhesions are defined as the attachment of two surfaces that under normal circumstances are not attached to one another. Scar tissue from surgery can cause an adhesion by preventing the normal gliding and sliding of the layers of tissue. When these tissues are stuck, you will have pain with movement. A c-section adhesion causes a “muffin top.”  That is why it is important to do scar mobilization after your stitches have healed.
