California

Cheryl Bjornson

Personal Trainer

Orinda

(San Francisco)
CA

Cheryl has been a certified personal trainer, specializing in pre/postnatal fitness, and a Baby Boot Camp® instructor for the past 5 years.  She has been an active athlete her entire life participating in swimming, soccer and high jump growing up, and she played Division 1 NCAA soccer at UCLA.  Cheryl has 3 young children and found it relatively easy to get back in shape after pregnancy but found it very difficult to get any positive results in her abdominal area.  After having her 2nd child, Cheryl knew she had a significant Diastasis but failed to address it because she was told on countless occasions by fitness and medical professionals that surgery was the only option.  She also felt like since she was going to have more children, she should just wait to address the problem which turned out to be a mistake because with each pregnancy a Diastasis gets worse.  After having her 3rd child, and trying several core exercise routines including Pilates, yoga, bar based classes, boot camps, crunches, and planks, she found that not only was her belly not getting smaller, it was getting worse!!!  She also began to suffer from significant lower back pain.  After searching extensively on the Internet and seeing such positive feedback about the Tupler Technique®, she sought the help of Julie Tupler, RN, in the spring.  Her Diastasis has gone from a whopping 10-finger separation, to less than a 3-finger separation in less than 10 weeks!!Since learning the Tupler Technique® and incorporating it into her daily routine, Cheryl now realizes that by waiting between each pregnancy and doing core exercises incorrectly, she only made her Diastasis worse.  She is determined to educate both women and men who suffer from Diastasis Recti and the ill effects associated with an abdominal separation and help them avoid the same mistakes she made.  The Tupler Technique® has positively changed her body, the way she exercises and lives her life. She is honored to be the first licensee in the State of California. She hopes she can share this revolutionary technique with youCheryl@abseparationrehab.com || www.abseparationrehab.com

Abby Kurtz

Abby Kurtz

Personal Trainer

Boulder
CO, USA

Abby Kurtz is a Personal Trainer in Boulder, Colorado. She owns and operates Pea in the Pod Fitness, LLC and works exclusively with prenatal and postpartum women. Although, she has been involved in the fitness industry since 2003 in a wide-variety of capacities, Abby feels that she has truly found her niche within this sub-population of women. Abby graduated from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in 2003 with a B.S. in Kinesiology. She is an ACE certified Personal Trainer with extensive continuing education in prenatal and postnatal fitness. She thoroughly enjoys helping women get ready for the physical act of labor and delivery, prevent many of the aches and pains associated with this time period, and reclaim and restore their bodies in the postpartum period.
Before telling you my full story, I need to give you a little background about myself. I had been a competitive runner from grade school up through college. Not only was I good at running but also it was my true passion. Unfortunately, in 2004, my running career came to a screeching halt when I incurred an injury to my low back. It wasn’t until several years later that I would find out that I have a bulging disc at L4-L5. The injury put me completely out of commission. I couldn’t run without being in pain during the run and then for several days thereafter. My gait was completely altered from compensating and this only made things worse.
Prior to becoming licensed in the Tupler Technique®, I started doing the exercises simply because I wanted to know from experience how the exercises should feel when done correctly. I started following the regimen to the tee and to my surprise the sore and tight back started to fade away. Say nothing of the fact that my already flat stomach was, in fact, getting flatter. Eventually, one day I felt like I could try a short run. To my surprise my gait was no longer off kilter and the pain had subsided.
Currently, I’m still going slow and gradually adding running back into my life but the Tupler Technique® is the first thing in 6-years that has given me even an ounce of hope. In fact, I was so elated that I broke down and cried when I told Julie and the other licensees my story. This has made me a firm believer in the Tupler Technique® and I want everyone else to know about this ground-breaking technique.

Illinois

Cheryl Mostowski

Pilates instructor

Algonquin,
IL

Cheryl began her career in the fitness industry because of an injury.  After exhausting nearly all methods of traditional medicine, Cheryl was introduced to Pilates and was able to experience firsthand just what core strength could do to help people with unresolved  pain.  Although a paralegal by profession, she felt called to learn Pilates in order to be able to assist others in their journey to wellness. Cheryl became certified with STOTT PILATES® and opened Inner Strength Pilates, a small studio in Algonquin, Illinois.  A few years later, Cheryl encountered a new client who simply could not hold her abdominals in. She knew she could not properly train this client with the knowledge from her pilates methods.  After extensive research, Cheryl realized that her client’s lack of ability to hold in her abdominals is the classic description of what a diastasis looked like. However, traditional pilates methods would fall short in fixing her client’s issue. This is when Cheryl found the Tupler Technique® online. She began doing research as to how the Tupler Technique® worked and encouraged her client to use the Technique as an alternative to surgery.  Once Cheryl began seeing results within a few short weeks, she knew she needed to train with Julie Tupler and become a certified instructor in the Tupler Technique®. After beginning training she realized that, although she had worked hard on her abdominal strength, she, too, had a diastasis that needed healing!  Thanks to the Tupler Technique®, Cheryl has modified her teaching of core work and is healing her own diastasis. Cheryl is passionate about health and giving individuals the information and training they need to properly use their muscles and bodies as they were designed. Additionally, she’s excited to help people become pain free and avoid surgery.  She now specializes in using the Tupler Technique® to help men, women, and children restore true core strength by healing a diastasis if they have one. If they do not have a diastasis, she can use the Tupler Technique®  in conjunction with proper pilates movements to realign their bodies and become stronger and leaner.  Cheryl is also been educated to teach Perfect Pushing®, using the Tupler Technique®, and is excited to work with pre- and post-partum women.

Maryland

Tami Huber

Physical Therapist

Sykesville,
MD
West of Baltimore and north of D.C.

Tami Huber, graduated with her Master’s in Physical Therapy from Governors State University in University Park, IL in 2006 and passionately pursued the Mckenzie method and became certified in 2008. She is also a licensed Tupler Technique®instructor and has been practicing and teaching the technique for 6.5 years.
She was upset to learn about the diastasis recti in PT school and that most moms suffer from this phenomenon. She was pregnant at the time and found the Tupler Technique® which she began practicing just after the birth of her first child and was able was able to get her abs to better than pre-baby shape, since she now knew not to do crunches/sit-ups anymore. Strengthening her core through this technique also helped her rehabilitate her affected pelvic floor, a key part of the core.
Using this technique has made “all the difference during her pregnancies” keeping her abs strong and toned, her back strain and pain free, and helped her core (abs and pelvic floor) quickly recover afterwards. Her passion is to help people attain the same results she did, reclaiming their core strength and pre-pregnancy abs, or heal their abdominal separation due to performing the “wrong exercises”. She incorporates this technique in her PT practice and has found it can be the missing link in educating and strengthening her back and neck patients.
She recently moved to the Baltimore/D.C. area with her husband and two daughters, is 8 months pregnant and feeling great. She loves to stay active playing soccer, ice hockey, and teaching. She has seminars, workshops and private training available for men/women, pre/ post natal women, and pre/ post surgery patients.

Kim Raubenheimer

Kim Raubenheimer

Personal Trainer

Boston
MA, USA

"What is that alien popping out of my stomach?" asked Kim (7 months pregnant with her 2nd child), as she jackknifed off the OB/GYN table at her exam. That cannot be normal she thought.  Her doctor did not have an answer for her.  Busy with a toddler, working full time and getting ready for her 2nd child, Kim did not look into that phenomenon right away.  Kim did not expect to completely regain her six pack she had pre-kids, but wondered why her abs were not getting as flat, as quickly as they did with her first child.  "I must not be working hard enough".  A few more inclined crunches with weights on her belly?  Time to do some research.  Kim found Julie Tupler,RN, expert on Diastasis Recti separation.  Even a certified fitness instructor can still get a diastasis by doing abdominal work incorrectly!    After reading Julie's book and attending Diastasis Rehab ™ Lose Your Mummy Tummy Seminar, Kim knew she had to learn the Tupler Technique®  so she could teach others to work the core correctly in their exercise routine as well as daily living.  Thanks to the Tupler Technique® and becoming a licensee, Kim has modified her teaching of core work and she herself is making lots of progress healing her connective tissue and closing her separated recti muscles.
She is certified with the American Academy of Sports Dietician and Nutritionist, KOGA Instructor, AFAA Group Exercise Instructor, Mad Dogg spin, Kids in Motion, Balletone Sole Synthesis, Outdoor Bootcamp, and ACE pre and post natal certified.   She is currently studying for her NASM Personal Training certification. Kim is a nutrition coach and fitness instructor at the Cambridge Athletic Club (www.cambridgeathletic.com). She gives nutrition workshops at the Northeastern University Russell Call Children's Center and MIT Recreation Sports Center, as well as at various companies.

Sarah Hatfield

Sara Hatfield

Personal Trainer

Billings
MT, USA

Coach Sara has been a personal trainer since 2004. She has trained prenatal and postpartum clients in gyms and homes all over New York City. She started the infamous Boot-y Camp in Brooklyn's Prospect Park where the workouts were tough and the motto was "Get your booty in shape!" Many of her students and clients complained over the years about their poochy post-baby bellies, so she learned Tupler Technique® to help them labor more wisely, lose their mummy tummies and reduce back pain. Teaching fitness classes 6 days a week for 6 years did have one negative effect for Sara: an exercise induced diastasis. She has had great success healing her own diastasis with the Tupler Technique®. She went from 3 finger widths at the belly button down to 1 in just six weeks and lost 2 inches off her waist.
Coach Sara's fitness clients benefit from her boxing and kickboxing experience as well as her extensive work with new moms. She studied kickboxing in Thailand, pioneered the Sunday Women's Boxing class at the world famous Gleason's Gym, and competed out of Gleason's in the Metro Golden Gloves. Sara lives in Montana with her husband, two cats and a big old lumpy dog, and serves the Billings and Bozeman areas. She believes that getting fit helps people enjoy life. "That's what it's all about: feeling good in your body as you mature. I try to gently move people away from negative self talk and wanting smaller thighs toward more balanced goals that will keep them healthy and enjoying life for a long time. Move your body every day and eat smart because you'll feel better, sleep better, and be able to meet your grandkids and touch your toes when you're 90. Oh, and by the way, you'll look better too."

Laura Rossborough

Personal Trainer

Bayside suburbs of Melbourne

Australia

Laura Rossborough (B.Ed, LLB) has a life long involvement in sport and fitness.  Laura has been practicing the martial art of Shukokai Karate over the past 15 years and is currently a 2nd degree Black Belt, instructing junior and senior classes. Laura also competed in track and field athletics, cross country and road running races at state and national levels over a 12 year period winning many state running titles and numerous state and national placings.  Fitness, (through weight training, cross training, resistance training, running and martial arts) and healthy eating is a part of her every day life. A wealth of knowledge has been gained over many years of both structured professional pursuits and personal trial. Laura is a qualified secondary school teacher with a Bachelor of Education and Health Major. She also holds a Bachelor of Laws and has been lecturing and tutoring at University level in Business Law since 2000. As a mother to 4 girls, Laura was most conscious of her tummy.  She was determined to regain her waist and flat tummy following the birth of each of her children. However despite completing thousands of abdominal exercises including sit ups, incline sit ups, medicine ball sit ups and crunches, leg walks, leg pull ups, cable crunches etc, Laura was devastated to realise that her tummy only seemed to be in an even worse condition!  She was so frustrated but refused to accept that a flat toned tummy was no longer attainable.  Surrendering herself to radical and aggressive tummy tuck surgery was out of the question. Finally in November 2010 while searching the internet, Laura found reference to an exercise technique that claimed to heal a condition called Diastasis Recti - a separation of the abdominal muscles. Upon further investigation, Laura was convinced that she had a Diastasis and that the Tupler Technique® exercises were the answer she had been searching for. Laura immediatly enrolled in a series of private workshops and began to see results within 1 week! At the end of the 6 week program, she had lost an astonishing 5 inches from around her belly, had a flatter and toned tummy, improved overall posture and increased strength in her lower back. Laura found that these changes made such a difference to her everyday life and realised that the Tupler Technique® exercises were the missing link for those wishing to gain or regain a stronger abdominal region. The timing was perfect! Laura had been searching for a way to educate and empower women. Firstly through legal advice and then through the medium of martial arts but she could not find the 'perfect' thing. The Tupler Technique® was the perfect thing! And as it happened it could help men and children too. The natural progression was for Laura to become qualified to spread the word. In order to do this, she decided to approach Julie Tupler, a truly unique and inspirational lady, and become licensed in the Tupler Technique®.  Following an intensive home study period, Laura travelled to New York to train with Julie and satisfy the requirements for extensive written and practical exams.  Through 'Tummy Zip', Laura is excited to bring this ground-breaking exercise technique to the Bayside suburbs of Melbourne.

England

Camilla Peirse

Personal Trainer

London,
England

Camilla is the first Tupler Technique® practitioner in the UK, a qualified personal trainer, sports massage therapist, and student of osteopathy working in health and fitness since 2003. She has a special interest in the nurture and rehabilitation of the body and passionately supports the holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Camilla became interested in post partum abdominal rehabilitation when her sister Rachel discovered she had a 4 finger diastasis recti following her second pregnancy. Rachel’s condition went undiagnosed by her personal trainer and, like so many others, was surprised her condition was worsening despite doing hundreds of crunches. After three weeks, Rachel saw a 50% improvement with the Tupler Technique®. Camilla became aware that she herself also had a diastasis possibly from doing gymnastics as a child or following her pregnancy in 2005. Since following the unique Tupler Technique® her diastasis has closed and the accompanying improvements in her core strength and pelvic stability has been the missing link in managing her struggle with low back pain following an injury in 2006. Camilla trained in New York with Julie Tupler in April 2011. She was lucky enough to attend one of Julie’s seminars where she discovered how the Tupler Technique® was also being used by those facing abdominal surgery. In cases of umbilical hernias, it has meant surgery has often been avoided. And, in those where surgery is unavoidable recovery rates are significantly improved with reduced risks of reoccurrence. The most wonderful thing about the Tupler Technique is that it empowers those who use it providing them with a program they can use throughout their lifetime.

Rachel is a qualified personal trainer (level3/REP registered) with a special interest in post-natal rehabilitation. After her second pregnancy, Rachel was unable to get rid of her “mummy tummy” even after her baby weight had disappeared.  She was doing regular exercise including crunches and cross over oblique exercises and her tummy was getting bigger. She was given conflicting and confusing advice and could not find an exercise programme specifically designed to help until she was introduced to the Tupler Technique® by an American friend.  She was delighted by the results, losing 3 inches around her waist and achieving a 50% reduction in her diastasis in just 3 weeks.  She found that the Tupler Technique® programme had not only healed her diastasis, but strengthened her pelvic floor, reduced her waist size and toned and flattened her stomach. Rachel is determined to help men and women like her feel strong and body confident again with a programme they could use for life. She trained with Julie in August 2011.
